5 Frightening Forests You Should Never Visit

Large trees, fresh air and solitude – forests are fantastic for a quick getaway from the stress of city living. But there are certain forests that you should be weary of And The five woodlands on this list have gained a reputation for being sinister, dark and even deadly. These are 5 Frightening Forests You Should Never Visit

    5. Devils Tramping Ground

Over 120 years before America gained its independence, locals have whispered that inside the pine woods of Chatham County in N. Carolina lies a 15-foot wide circle where no life has ever grown. They call it the Devil’s Tramping Ground.

Year after year, no plant life grows within the circle. Despite being surrounded by forests and trees, no plant life ever grows within this circle. No trees, no flowers,no anything and Locals say even when plants are transplanted within, they just wilt and die.

    4. Man Finds Missing Person’s Shrine

James Rankin was on a leisurely hike in October of 2016 exploring Huntington’s Berkeley Jackson County Park in New York when he came across a terrifying site. He was walking along when something posted on the trees caught his attention. He took a closer look and to his surprise, they were pieces of printed paper placed inside a plastic file sleeve. Theyhad been posted on individual trees around a portion of the forest. Rankin looked closely at each one and realized they were missing posters.

    3. Pine Barrens

Pine Barrens, New Jersey is dubbed as one of the most haunted forests in North America. Why? There’s a couple of reasons. First, it’s home to the terrifying Jersey Devil. Second, there are supposedly multiple ghosts seen in the area. Third, it’s a place where real life abandoned ghost towns are found.

For centuries, countless urban legends have surrounded this mysterious forest. Over time, the stories change but the central characters remain.

    2. The Black Forest

Sitting alongside the Rhine River, you’ll find a deep, dark forest with such a thick canopy of tall trees hardly any sunlight penetrates through. This area in Germany is known appropriatly as the Black Forest.

For many, the Black Forest has become synonymous with evil forests you would find mentioned in haunting fairytales. In fact, we have the Brothers Grimm to thank for that imagery since many of their stories set in deep, dark forests take inspiration from this location.

    1. Interstate 85

For many, the trees lining one of America’s busiest interstates is just like anywhere else. But what they don’t know is that Interstate 85 in Atlanta, Georgia is a hidden dumping ground for bodies. The entire 200–mile stretch of the Interstate starting at the Georgia corridor down to the tip of South Carolina has become a dumping place of murdered and missing people.

Nice vid, but I personally thin that the "Sea of Trees" Aokigahara deserved a spot on your list, since its a notorious suicicde forest

Of course, superheroes always have powers or gadgets and sometimes have their own vehicles. But for me, I always dreamed of being a superhero, becoming a hero, creating fantasy into a dream but of course, keep dreaming. I never wanted my dreams to become another fantasy like the others. I wanted to be a superhero for real, it was my whole life dream but no one said that it couldn’t be really true becoming a hero instead of becoming a cop. But of course, as my grandpa always says “Never stop dreaming the fantasy but always try to make it true and always believe in yourself” I was sad when he passed away but I will never forget him even the day I died. But when I went to college, some bullies would pick people who are weak, they usually never picked me because I would always stun them with my karate. I loved taking a karate class every Saturday. I was on a green belt and after a while, I soon got the blue and again, got a purple belt. I always get picked by the toughest and hard bullies to defend from them. I was tired of getting bullied by those jerks. I started science class when it was the middle of the school year. I was thinking of creating my dreams into reality. It took me weeks to get it right with the programming, shapes, gadgets and the weapons that I dreamed of having as a hero. I was dreaming of having electric powers since nobody had that in any superhero comic. But there was a movie which is showing an African-American dc comics hero. There was a supervillain that had fire as there superpower.
I was bummed that they had those powers first. Besides its impossible to have any powers like those and it will kill you trying to have it as your power either for evil things or help the world. All I just wish is to become a real hero.

                        -Grandpa
Do you think this story good for a hero writing origin issue?

Wow, I didn't expect the forest I go in almost every day on 2nd place...well, with a friend, we did run into a shack which lied not far away from an abandoned mine...and the house was just perfect- overgrown with plant and wine, the windows were shut, with just a bit of light coming through the lines, everything was screeching from the doors, floor to the stairs we ascended on to the second floor, there were yet another stairs, steeper and narrower, leading higher in to a single room...after entering that room, we came screaming running out of the house ....I mean it is just amazing how two strong fully grown man can be overpowered by a single small bat......
But there are a lot scarier things in the forest like deforestation machinery...

I know there's a spot somewhere in the woods in someplace that has a 100 foot ring where everything living dies about 15 minutes after entering. It was believed to be a gate to hell so a monk marked it with a carving of a devils face. This research team went in and discovered that it's actually the crash site for a meteorite that's releasing such dense amounts of sulfurous gas that it's a highly poisonous spot. They had to leave quickly because a lot of the team started feeling the effects of the gas.

in the pine barrens of nj, wile on my motorcycle something on four legs ran out of the woods crossed the road at an angle and ran back into the woods on the other side. it was seemingly semi translucent to the point i needed to really look hard at the creature.. NOTHING i have ever seen resembles what i saw, NOTHING.... i wasnt looking for it, but i did see it and cant explain what it really was. a mange infected animal was not what i saw... at the distance i was to it i would of seen clearly an animal. this was last september 2018. i play it over and over in my head and still have only one explanation.. God found it reasonable to allow me to see such a thing..

Hello, I'm from North Carolina. A couple summers ago, me and my friends visited the Devil's Tramping Ground hoping to experience something scary. Upon immediately arriving at the scene, I believe we drove over an underground hornet's nest or something of the sort because as soon as we parked, our car started being attacked by giant hornet/bee/wasp things. They were so big you could hear them plunking on the side of the car and on the windows. We drove away and then circled back and parked a little further down hoping to avoid them. Luckily it worked and after a minute or so we jumped from our car and sprinted to the tramping ground. It was pretty underwhelming as it was just a sparse area of woodland and it was hard to distinguish where exactly the circle was because of all the foot traffic having trampled the ground, etc. There were a couple guys who had set up tents to spend the night and we exchanged snapchats so we could see if anything happened to them the next day/throughout the night. I don't think anything ever significant happened (like them being transported out of the circle, etc) because I remember messaging them the next day and getting a pretty normal response, though I can't remember exactly what they said. Anyway tldr; very underwhelming and the scariest part of the trip was the bees. I took a rock from the grounds and when my mom found out she got mad and told me to throw it away LOL
